J. NELS BJORKQUIST
(pronounced “Bee – York – Kwist”)

J. Nels Bjorkquist represents employers, business owners, and individuals in employment litigation, contract disputes, and real estate matters before state and federal courts and administrative agencies. Mr. Bjorkquist handles employment matters involving all types of state and federal discrimination claims, discipline and discharge issues, covenants to not compete, and labor relations issues. He is experienced in both federal labor arbitration and the arbitration on general litigation matters. As both an experienced appellate advocate in state and federal courts and a former clerk to a Wisconsin Supreme Court justice, Mr. Bjorkquist’s targeted research and written and oral arguments have led to the reversal of erroneous decisions by lower courts and the affirmation of correct rulings favorable to his clients.

Past matters that Mr. Bjorkquist handled include banking and money laundering regulations under the Bank Secrecy Act and the USA PATRIOT ACT, municipal governance and procurement issues, unfair trade practices, professional licensure proceedings, commercial real estate financing, health care reimbursement for ambulatory surgical centers, sales tax disputes regarding commercial rent and services, recovery of embezzled funds, real estate boundary disputes, and bad faith claims regarding title insurance coverage. His significant trial experience and comfort in the courtroom is matched by his extensive experience in working with agency regulators and stakeholders to draft proposed administrative rules impacting his regulated clients.

Mr. Bjorkquist received both his B.S. and J.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a member of the Labor and Employment Law and Litigation sections of the State Bar of Wisconsin and is also a member of The Florida Bar. Mr. Bjorkquist is admitted to practice in the following courts:

  • the administrative agencies, circuit courts, courts of appeal, and Supreme Court of Wisconsin;
  • the administrative agencies, circuit courts, courts of appeal, and Supreme Court of Florida;
  • federal administrative agencies;
